Application to the

Occupational Medicine Residency Training Program

Applicants must have completed a minimum of a PGY-1 (clinical year) before admission to the OMRTP. The PGY-1 year must have been completed at an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-approved program, or similarly-credentialed Canadian program. The recommended program areas are Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.

International graduates must pass the TOEFL and GRE before applying. The minimum passing score for the TOEFL is 580 paper-based/237 computer-based and for the GRE is 600 Verbal/600 Quantitative/4.5 A.W.   If the GRE was taken prior to October, 2003, 1800 is the minimum acceptable total score of the three tests.

The OMRTP does not participate in the traditional residency Match program. First offers of admission traditionally are made December 15th. After that date, the Program has a rolling admissions policy based on available positions. Applications are reviewed as files are completed.

A completed submission will include:

·        Departmental and University applications

·        3 letters of recommendation, including one from the director of the applicant’s most recent residency program

·        a statement of personal goals and interest in Occupational Medicine

·        a reference letter from the applicant’s medical school dean

·        transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate training

·        a curriculum vitae

·        USMLE scores

All applications are initially reviewed by the Program Director. Selected applicants will be offered an interview with faculty members and current residents. Generally, three full-time residency positions are available each year.  Part-time and one-year positions are also sometimes available. Residency positions generally begin on July 1st, but the Program offers flexible start time options.
